A Letter From a Board Member
As a new member of the Olde Towne Medical Center Board, I have taken great pride in my position as a member and a volunteer -- but not as much as I feel about what I need to share with all of you concerning a recent event.
As most of you know, I work as an RN at Sentara Regional Medical Center. I recently took care of a patient who hardly spoke any English. We had a translator phone in the room for those of us who do not speak Spanish and, fortunately, some of my Italian background made it a little easier for me to communicate with this patient.
He is a hard worker who needed medical attention right away. He was very scared and worried and needed Olde Towne's assistance when he got out of the hospital. I gave him all of the information and, although he had fear in his eyes, with both of our warm hands touching in "human kindness" we completely understood each other with no language barrier. He did go to Olde Towne Medical Center and, when he came back to see me a week later, he gave me the biggest hug, told me he met the nicest people and said thank you in Italian. He is Spanish and I'm an American, but it is amazing how, with human kindness, it doesn't' matter where you come from or who you are.
I'm very proud to be on this Board and I wanted to thank you Judy and the OTMC staff for all they've done. You have influenced me and so many others and I'm so glad Icould share this magical story with you.
Ramie Lodwick, RN
