OB / Prenatal Program
History of the OB Program
In October of 2004, OTMC opened its OB/Prenatal Clinic for expectant
mothers living in Williamsburg, James City County and York County,
providing OB/Prenatal services to pregnant women who do not have health insurance.
David Pribble,OTMC Executive Director, said,
“This program is a wonderful example of collaboration and partnership of both our public and private sector with the local hospital and local community health foundation.”
Expectant mothers may be eligible for Medicaid and an application is
filed
by the Department of Social Services. If a patient does not qualify for Medicaid,
a payment plan is arranged to cover the OB/Prenatal services. OTMC enjoys relationships with an extensive referral network including Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center and the majority of
physicians in the
Williamsburg area. Dr. Les Wasserman, who has been working at the clinic
since January 2005, states, “The Olde Towne Obstetric Clinic provides
high quality prenatal care to patients who would otherwise
not be able to obtain it.
Patients with inadequate prenatal care are by
definition high risk. This risk is
significantly lowered for the patients that
come to us at Olde Towne.”
Dr. Wasserman notes, “We have a significant Spanish speaking
population and
have a group of excellent volunteer interpreters. Our
patients get
personalized service and seem to feel very comfortable with us.” |
