OB / Prenatal Program History
Prior to starting the OB/Prenatal Clinic, OTMC identified a community
problem: women, who had no prenatal care because they had no health insurance,
were arriving at the Emergency Room to deliver their babies.
OTMC worked
to bring together the organizations and people necessary to make the
OB/Prenatal Clinic possible. A grant from the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation provides ongoing annual financial support. The private practice
physicians of Womancare of Williamsburg and Williamsburg
Obstetrics & Gynecology deliver the babies at
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center and the hospital provides
financial support to OTMC to employ an obstetrician and furnish laboratory work.
Since opening in 2004, the clinic has provided obstetrical and prenatal
services to over 900 expectant mothers. Last year, the program served 188 individuals.
Dr. Alan Norman, Medical Director, pointed out, “Our
OB/Prenatal program
has ensured that even those without medical
insurance can have healthy
pregnancies and babies. It is great that Sentara and local private obstetricians
have teamed up with us to
make this possible.”
