Medication Access Program

A grant from the Greater Williamsburg Medication Access Program helps OTMC obtain medications directly from pharmaceutical companies for those in need who qualify. This service is for both OTMC patients and patients of prescribing physicians in our service area.

For information, please call: 259-3256

Medication Access Program History

Since 1995, OTMC has been helping its patients who qualify obtain their chronic care medications directly from pharmaceutical companies. Until 2005, the program was run by one clerical staff member and numerous volunteer assistants. From July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, the program helped provide OTMC patients with over 5,400 prescriptions valued at over $1,400,000.

In 2005, a grant from the Greater Williamsburg Medication Access Program allowed OTMC to expand this service to the community. The program provides services for both OTMC patients and patients of any prescribing physician in our service area. The grant, funded by the Virginia Health Care Foundation and awarded to OTMC by the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation, allowed OTMC to hire additional MAP staff to help connect uninsured and under-insured residents of the OTMC service area with free drug programs already provided by private drug companies.

Referrals

OTMC patients may be referred to medical & dental specialists and/or other community resources to meet their individual needs and the needs of their family.
